Veterinary Hospitalization

At McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic, our team is fully prepared and equipped to provide quality after-hours emergency services to ill or injured pets in McKinney, TX, and the surrounding areas. If your companion animal requires hospitalization, you can always expect the highest level of medical care. Just like humans, very sick or injured animals sometimes require ongoing monitoring. Your beloved pet may require critical care after severe trauma, trouble breathing, or after emergency surgery. During an emergency hospitalization, your companion animal may need IV fluids, oxygen therapy, or transfusions.

Most pets who need hospitalization will get the needed care in our post-operative recovery area, or if the situation is critical, in our intensive care unit (ICU). Our emergency ICU is similar to a human ICU in that it has specialized technologies and advanced monitoring systems.

As soon as a patient is in our care, we'll get started with treatment right away. Here's what most of our hospitalized patients experience:

Personalized Patient Care: We understand that each patient comes with unique needs. Our in-house laboratory and superior diagnostic technology will allow us to create fully customized treatment plans for the best possible outcomes.

Medication Administration: We'll place an IV catheter to begin fluid therapy or deliver medications intravenously. We may use a mild sedative to help an anxious animal feel more at ease. We'll follow your pet's personalized treatment plan and administer any medications, transfusions, or oxygen therapy as needed.

Post-Operative Care: If your pet has had a surgical procedure, we will provide pain medications so they can rest comfortably. We always keep an eye on our patients, monitor their vitals, keep up with any needed prescriptions, and ensure everything is going well.

Stress-Free Handling: Our team strives to create a stress-free environment with slow movement and soft voices to keep our patients at ease. Whenever we need to move or handle an animal in any way, we will do so in a manner that poses the least possible amount of stress or discomfort.
