End of Life Care
in McKinney, Texas
At McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic, our focus is providing emergency after-hour care for injured and very sick pets. One of our sad responsibilities is helping pet parents make end-of-life decisions for their companion animals and, whenever needed, performing euthanasia. We understand how hard it is to say goodbye to your long-time family member and are here to support you every step of the way!
Is It Time to Say Goodbye?
Making that decision to put a precious pet to sleep is one of the most painful decisions pet parents ever have to make. It is often the humane option to free your companion animal from extreme suffering resulting from serious or irreversible medical conditions or injuries. If you need to talk the decision through, Dr. Pierotti is here to discuss your options and make a recommendation with your beloved pet's best interests in mind.
Humane End of Life Care
Euthanasia is the Greek word for "good death." It is a gentle and peaceful way to end your precious pet's extreme suffering and prevent future distress. At McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic, our team has special training to provide your pet with a humane, gentle, and dignified end-of-life transition.
What Does the End of Life Process Entail?
After completing some paperwork, we will start the process. You're welcome to offer your companion animal a special treat. Once everyone is ready, we will give your pet a sedative shot to help with relaxation and prevent any unnecessary pain or stress during the final injection. The light anesthetic will induce a deep state of sleep. You are welcome to hold your beloved pet during this time to provide soothing comfort.
Once you are ready and have said all your final goodbyes, we will inject a solution to put your pet to rest. You are welcome to stay or may step out of the room, whatever makes you comfortable.
The Final Arrangements
We work alongside a professional pet cremation services provider to help with your precious companion animal's final arrangements. Rest assured that your beloved pet will be honored and treated with respect and dignity every step of the way. Please let us know if you have any special requests, and we'll accommodate them the best we can!
